Module 5

Putting It Together — Reading a Chart

Now you know all the pieces. Synthesis is what separates a beginner from a competent reader. Follow this method every time and your readings will be coherent.

Lesson 1 of 6

A reliable 7-step method

1. ASCENDANT first. The rising sign + its ruler is the chart's title. Note the ruler's sign, house, aspects. 2. SUN. Sign, house, aspects. Core identity and life direction. 3. MOON. Sign, house, aspects. Emotional needs and inner life. 4. ELEMENT / MODALITY BALANCE. Count signs across the 10 planets + ASC + MC. Note dominants and lacks. 5. STELLIUMS or strong placements. Three or more planets in a sign or house = a major life theme. 6. MAJOR ASPECTS. Hard aspects (squares, oppositions) = growth tensions; soft (trines, sextiles) = gifts. Tight aspects first. 7. HOUSE EMPHASIS. Which hemispheres / quadrants hold most planets? Eastern (1–3, 10–12) = self-directed; western = other-directed. Top = public; bottom = private. Weave these into a story, not a list. The reading is a portrait, not an inventory.
Lesson 2 of 6

Worked example #1 — the visible self

Imagine a chart with Leo Ascendant, Sun in Aries in House 9, Moon in Cancer in House 12, and Mars in Aries conjunct the Sun. Reading: • Leo rising — a warm, expressive presence; theatrical, dignified, hard to miss. The Sun (ruler of Leo) sits in Aries: their visible self is fueled by raw will and pioneering instinct. • Sun in Aries / House 9 — life direction points at meaning, travel, philosophy. They were born to go far (literally or intellectually) and to lead. • Moon in Cancer / House 12 — under the bold exterior is a deeply private emotional life. Need for solitude to recharge; psychic sensitivity hidden from the world. • Mars conjunct Sun in Aries — exceptionally driven, possibly impulsive; will follow their own impulses against advice. • Synthesis: a bold, philosophically minded leader with a private, sensitive heart. Their growth edge is learning when NOT to charge.
Lesson 3 of 6

Worked example #2 — the relational chart

Libra Ascendant, Sun in Taurus in House 7, Moon in Pisces in House 6, Venus (chart ruler) in Aries in House 7 square Saturn in Capricorn in House 4. Reading: • Libra rising — graceful, diplomatic, harmony-seeking. The chart ruler is Venus. • Sun in Taurus / House 7 — identity is anchored in stable, long-term partnership. They literally know who they are through committed relationships. • Moon in Pisces / House 6 — daily life is emotionally permeable; needs caring, healing work and gentle routines. • Venus in Aries / House 7 square Saturn in Capricorn / House 4 — the romantic instinct (Venus Aries) is direct and impulsive, but Saturn in the home blocks easy expression. There is family conditioning (Saturn Capricorn IC region) that says love must be earned, controlled, delayed. The square is the chart's growth motor: they must learn to honor both spontaneous desire AND structural commitment. • Synthesis: a relational person whose deepest work is reconciling impulse with maturity in love.
Lesson 4 of 6

Worked example #3 — the visionary

Aquarius Ascendant, Sun in Capricorn in House 11, Moon in Sagittarius in House 10, stellium in Aquarius (Mercury, Venus, Mars) in House 12, Uranus opposite Sun. Reading: • Aquarius rising — unconventional presence; the world reads them as 'different'. • Sun in Capricorn / House 11 — identity built through long-term contribution to a community, a cause, a network. Disciplined ambition aimed at the collective. • Moon in Sagittarius / House 10 — emotional fulfillment requires meaning and visibility; needs a public mission to feel at peace. • Aquarius stellium in House 12 — a powerful inner laboratory hidden from view; ideas, art, ideals generated in solitude; can feel lonely until that work finds an audience. • Uranus opposite Sun — periodic ruptures, sudden changes of direction, the inability to follow a conventional career path. The growth edge is to ride the change rather than fight it. • Synthesis: a disciplined visionary whose private inner work eventually serves a collective audience.

Ethics of reading for others

Five rules every responsible amateur reader should follow: 1. NEVER PREDICT DEATH, ILLNESS, OR DOOM. You don't know what you don't know, and the placebo of fear is real. 2. THE CHART DESCRIBES TENDENCIES, NOT VERDICTS. Always frame things as 'this is the energy; here is how you might work with it'. 3. RESPECT PRIVACY. Read a chart only with the person's informed consent. Don't read a third party without their knowledge. 4. DON'T REPLACE PROFESSIONALS. Medical, legal, financial, psychiatric questions belong to qualified professionals. Astrology can be a mirror, not a diagnosis. 5. STAY HUMBLE. You are a beginner. Disclose it. The most respected astrologers in history were the ones who said 'I think this means…' instead of 'this means'. A reading is a conversation, not a verdict.
